Good, dependable spreader (4 star review)

Have used this spreader for 12 years to spread fertilizer, sand, & seed on 3 acre plot. Spreads very evenly, doesn't clog easily, is easy to clean (just hose off) and very corrosion resistant. Depending on the material, the broadcast spread is 8-12 ft. I spread around 350 pounds of organic fertilizer twice a year and this spreader makes that very easy.

Construction: All metal pieces that contact the fertilizer are stainless steel. Fasteners look like they are zinc plated. Uses standard pneumatic tires. Sturdy, durable non corroding plastic hopper. (no signs of UV cracking after all this time...)

Suggested product improvement would be to add zerk fittings on axle sleeves to make it easier to grease.

Only complaint is that the control settings don't correlate to any major fertilizer brands (Scotts, Earthway, etc.). As a result you need to set application rate by trial and error.

It is always a lot easy to pull the spreader behind the mower than to cut and then spread. This is a well built, sturdy spreader and is easy to operate.

Just what I wanted (5 star review)

The broadcast spreader I purchased was delivered promptly, in good shape and with nothing missing. Using this tool allowed me to fertilize my 1&1/2 acre lot in a speady fashion and a evenly distribution of the fertilizer. I would recommend this spreader to anyone with a large yard and a riding lawn mower.

Piece of junk (1 star review)

When it works, it works great. But the gears that turn the broadcaster jam easily. At least the thin tires that go flat when you roll over briars can be fixed; the poorly engineered gears can't. Don't expect more than a few hours of use from this spreader.

good for light duty (3 star review)

this spreader worked fine for fertilizing and seeding of field, but quickly got "racked" when I used it wth only 40 pounds of pulverized lime on uneven ground. I was very dissapointed.....but managed to keep it limping along. Use it slowly and carefully and I believe it will be fine for you. NO trail blazing! Hint....keep tightening the hardware after use and rinse thoroughly.

Broadcast spreader-towable (4 star review)

The Agri-Fab Spreader #45-0211 came packaged in a large box. It was very simple to put together and took about 25 min. reading the instruction booklet. Hooked it up to my garden tractor, dumped 100 lbs. of fertilizer in it and away I went. Did a nice job of spreading product with even coverage. The spreader door at the bottom of the hopper was difficult to calibrate but presetting the size of the opening before putting product into the hopper is a wise move so there is no over-delivery of fertilizer, seed or whatever. The enclosed spreader charts were helpful but you need to familiarize yourself with the set screw assembly on the door opening devise before you place product into the hopper. Overall, good machine that appears to be ruggedly built.

Amazon.com Review

Maintain wide distribution of fertilizer while reducing the necessary time, energy, and fertilizer to cultivate an attractive, even lawn with this broadcast spreader from Illinois-based Agri-Fab. Whereas other types of spreaders often result in overlap or missed strips, creating a line effect on lawns, this broadcast spreader distributes fertilizer in a random spray pattern to cover a distance of 10 to 12 feet. The broadcast coverage nurtures more natural, uniform grass growth, while limiting the needed fertilizer for an extra ecological benefit. Designed for towing behind a tractor, the spreader also can be used for grass seed or ice melt in large open areas.

The broadcast spreader features a polyethylene hopper that resists rust, corrosion, and weather damage for long-lasting use. Accommodating approximately 125 pounds, this broadcast spreader is best equipped for use in yards and spaces 25,000 square feet or smaller. Aluminum gears are engaged to spread contents. The spreader is towed on two 14-by-4 pneumatic tires with 3/4-inch diameter axles. While the broadcast spreader provides excellent distribution of fertilizer and is a good choice for spreading seed and ice melt, Agri-Fab strongly discourages its use for powder lime. This USA-made broadcast spreader is designed for towing only and cannot be converted for manual pushing. This product may be covered by a limited one-year warranty. Upon shipping, the broadcast spreader measures 27-1/2 by 30 by 17-1/2 inches and weighs 40 pounds.
